JODIE ABACUS HOT KITCHEN

There’s nothing quite like a nu-funk electro stomper to sort out a pre-Xmas head cold, and South London native Jodie Abacus’ new cut ‘Hot Kitchen’ has shuffling our feet quicker than you can say Lemsip.  Ministry of Sound must be dead pleased with their refreshingly eccentric signing, as Abacus’ distinct style of mismatched beats, wonky time signatures and smoove as hell vocals is unlike any other in today’s line-up of R&B heavy hitters.  This latest jam is a glorious juxtaposition of unapologetically rude double-bass slaps and soulful backing harmonies, with echoes of Innervisions-era Stevie Wonder chucked in for good measure.  It’s been a while since we’ve been this excited about what an artist will throw at us next. -AO
